Description
The first fraction of Ylang Ylang (Cananga odorata) essential oil is the lightest and most volatile, obtained by fractional separation during distillation, concentrating the light terpenic components and the most volatile esters of the flower. Its olfactory profile is intensely fresh-floral, with bright floral notes, a slight citrus facet, and a floral greenness that make it the airiest and most accessible of the Ylang fractions; less persistent than subsequent fractions, it provides the top note impact in compositions. In perfumery, the 1st fraction is used in the top notes of tropical florals, light floral waters, and reconstitutions where the immediate floral impact of Ylang is desired without the heaviness of the deep sesquiterpenic fractions.
