SAGE OFFICINALIS ESSENTIAL OIL
Description
Sage essential oil is obtained by steam distillation of the leaves and flowering tops of Salvia officinalis. Its olfactory profile is herbaceous, aromatic, and slightly camphoraceous, with a medicinal sage note—aromatic, slightly phenolic, and very distinctly herbaceous. Its thujone content (a potentially neurotoxic compound) requires precise use and adherence to regulatory limits. Used sparingly in aromatic-herbaceous creations with character and "garrigue herb" accords, it brings a very authentic and distinctive aromatic note. It pairs well with rosemary, lavender, and citrus in natural and rustic Mediterranean aromatic compositions.
