Description
Diethyl phthalate (DEP) is one of the most widely used solvents and fixatives in conventional perfumery. Odorless in its pure state, it serves as the primary vehicle for fragrance oils in eau de toilette and eau de cologne, facilitating the dissolution and dispersion of materials. It also acts as a denaturing agent for ethyl alcohol (denatured ethanol) in pharmaceutical and cosmetic preparations. Although its use is declining in favor of alternatives considered more sustainable, it remains a commonly used formulation adjuvant in the perfume industry. In accordance with current regulations, its use must comply with established thresholds.
