Description
Dimethyl sulfide is a volatile sulfur compound naturally present in seafood, some vegetables (cabbage, white truffle), and wines. Its olfactory profile is intense and animalic, with a characteristic, very powerful sulfurous-marine note when pure. Used in extremely low doses (a few ppm), it brings a natural animalic-marine dimension to marine and iodized compositions, and contributes to the natural complexity of certain truffle-woody accords. Its extreme potency requires expert handling and millimeter-precise dosing. Perfumers use it as a "naturalizing" tool for marine or truffle accords in sophisticated fragrances.
